It's a gentle album made for anyone looking for an easy listen -- it goes down smooth.
Adam Greenburg

A staple of the vaunted 1960's-'70's Seattle jazz and lounge scene, Paul West's piano/vocal stylings graced many popular venues including a 5-year engagement at "The Riviera" on the shores of Lake Union. "Being Alone" is West's paean to that magical time when clubs like the Riviera were packed nightly with an amazing blend of Damon Runyon-type characters, all socializing to the sounds of Cole Porter, Ellington, Van Huesen and Irving Berlin. West's take on this classic repertoire also belie his deep involvement in the jazz scene of the time, reflected in his very musical phrasing and advanced harmonic sense. With a gracefully personal and conversant performing style, "Being Alone" is sure to warm the hearts of many.

Reviews of Being Alone

All Music Guide (Adam Greenburg)
Hailing seemingly from times past in jazz, Paul West here takes on the older piano and vocal jazz repertoire, performing in a nice soft, lounge style. His tone is light and rather intimate, bringing out an atmosphere of the smallest clubs. As he strolls through the repertoire, highlights from an era past spring out piece by piece. The album opens u ...

All About Jazz (C. Michael Bailey)
Silenciosa is a superb solo guitar recital by Joe Pass-Charlie Byrd devotee and Bay-Area veteran George Cotsirilos. Despite the title, this is not a Latin-oriented jazz recording. Mr. Cotsirilos basically very ably performs the Great American Songbook and a classical nylon string guitar. His performance is intelligent and bright with virtuosic flas ...

All About Jazz (C. Michael Bailey)
The very best music comes in small and simple packages. Pianist/vocalist Paul West has been a fixture on the Seattle jazz and lounge scene since the late 1960s. Being Alone is a collection of Tin Pan Alley and Jazz Standards performed with a direct and straight-ahead piano/vocal style. This is certainly nightclub music honed to perfection by a mast ...
