The Seattle jazz scene has a wealth of great players. This exciting studio session led by vocalist Jeff Baker showcases the leader's adventurous singing with a talented quartet of the Emerald City's finest.
Saxophonist Brent Jensen and Baker blow majestically above pianist Bill Anschell, bassist Jeff Johnson, and drummer John Bishop's propulsive rhythms on the opening All Blues workout followed by a dreamy reading of Irving Berlin's What'll I Do.
Baker remakes a repertoire ranging from songs by Carlo King and James Taylor to modern jazz standards by Mark Murphy, Oliver Nelson and Charlie Parker. He's a tradition-informed, daring vocalist, and the band drives his dramatic improvisations with a seething, ferocious swing.
