Pianist Simona Premazzi teams up with tenor/soprano saxophonist Kyle Nasser for a collection of originals that bubble over with complexity, sophistication and acuity. The quartet is filled out by bassist Noah Garabedian and drummer Jay Sawyer, both up to the task of the brainy charts. Premazzi has a touch that includes a classical feel on the multi-dimensioned "Iacchus" and her fingers are nimble with Garabedian and Sawyer under Nasser's sweet soprano on "Back Seat". Sawyer leads into a dark and convoluted "Persistence of Change" while flexing his biceps with Nasser's tenor on "Requiem for K.O.". Some easier swing comes in on the grooving "Rocks That Aren't So Smooth," and the twists & turns for "From What I Recall" are for Formula One drivers only. Angles within angles.
