And the award for the hippest song title of the year goes to? Dean Schmidt for Harry Whodeanie's Magic Impromptu Blues! An instant favorite of mine for 2007, Dean Schmidt's I Know Nothing, resembles solo efforts by Trey Anastasio and Herbie Hancock, yet takes on a bright feel of its own.

Written years ago and after collecting dust in his closet, Dean decided to release the 13 tracks heard here. Produced by Gary Gibson and influenced by too many people and places to mention, I Know Nothing is one of the freshest mixes of Latin and Smooth Jazz I've heard in a long time. When the freelance bass player is not gigging around he's playing and recording all kinds of new music. Currently he's working on the musical High School Musical, in and around the Seattle area.

Additional cohorts on the album are: Garey Williams rocking out on the Drums; Julio Jauregui and Steve Rice beat the keys on the Piano; Eric Verlinde taps it out on Piano and Rhodes, Brian Kent and Jim Coile are blowin? on the Tenor Sax; Thomas Marriott gets cheek cramps on the Trumpet; Edson Otero's fingers bleed on the Congas; Rafael Quinones Guiros on the Guiro, and Gary Gibson picked up the steel pans, Vibes, Percussion and added the munchkin vocals on Pop Star.
