It is not often that the lead man in a group is a drummer but that is most assuredly the case with drummer Rich Thompson who is the driving force behind this propulsive quartet recording that features a choice selection of tunes and exceptional soloists.
This is one of those albums that has it all - the transitional sound
for the 'old-timers' who have loved jazz forever as well as for the
avant garde who groove on new techniques and new blends. Much of what happens is due to the choice of instruments (and
of course the superb musicians who play them): this assemblage lets us know from the onset that the sound is going to be just....its own!
The personnel here are as follows: Terell Stafford, trumpet and flugelhorn, Doug Stone, tenor saxophone, Gary Versace, piano and Hammond B3 organ, Jeff Campbell, bass, and naturally Rich
Thompson, drums. Together they offer oldies and new works in as fine a combination as imaginable. Settle back for some very fine sounds by some very gifted musicians.
