Cattitude

In the Netherlands, the Belgian musician Piet Verbist especially as the former bassist of the Jef Neve Trio. Domestically Verbist counts as an old warhorse who has played and recorded with numerous international musicians and he records for the American Origin Records label.

From his debut Zygomatik from 2012 to the controversial compositions on "Cattitude," Verbist makes a leap forward. The rhythmic accompaniment under the powerful mix of jazz rock, funk and soul is sparkling and by creating more space to breathe Verbist's compositions are a lot more natural. The free improvisations of the saxes offers a fascinating listening fabric, beautifully worn by the escapades of Wurlitzer and Fender Rhodes. Moreover, the compositions of Verbist are dynamic, so "Cattitude" sounds a lot more balanced than its predecessor.

In Nederland kennen we de Belgische musicus Piet Verbist vooral als de voormalige contrabassist van het Jef Neve Trio. In eigen land geldt Verbist als een oude rot in het vak die met tal van (internationale) musici speelde en opnam en met Contour een eigen platenlabel onderhoudt.

Ontbeerde het debuutalbum van Zygomatik uit 2012 het aan spraakmakende composities, op 'Cattitude' maakt Verbist een sprong vooruit. De ritmische begeleiding onder de krachtige mix van jazzrock, funk en soul is sprankelend en door meer ruimte te scheppen ademen de composities van Verbist een stuk natuurlijker. De vrije improvisaties van de saxen biedt boeiende luisterstof, fraai gedragen door de escapades van wurlitzer en Fender Rhodes. De composities van Verbist zijn bovendien dynamisch, waardoor 'Cattitude' een stuk uitgebalanceerder klinkt dan zijn voorganger.
