There is a small sensation in the making, especially not keep quiet! Experts who know how a sax-bass-drums trio functions and convenient between the slalom lurking clichés, are rare. Two young veterans take 'on the bandstand "a young guy in tow. In turn injects the young guest the music with a dose of freshness that conjures up a mysterious smile on the faces of his two fellow musicians. This could be in a nutshell the story behind the Mamutrio.

Lieven Cambré the alto sax of service. Alto Saxophone in a trio without a guitar or piano is not really an obvious choice, so few examples ... Something in the game of this trio is reminiscent of groups around Mark Turner. Then the creative melodic input of Tristano adepts as Warne Marsh and Lee Konitz never far away. Piet Verbist that other young veteran, keep everything in the right jobs with the necessary imagination. The lesser known drummer Jesse Dockx draws attention to itself.

When these recordings were made, Jesse Dockx was only 18. What evokes the occurrence of Miles in Antibes in 1964 when the Master of Ceremony announced Tony Williams and casually mentioned "il a 17 ans", well aware of the sensation that the drummer would bring in an audience that did not know him produce. Dockx responds promptly and with the energy of a young foal. He drums bass and sax not into a corner but showcases carelessly and depending on the group sound are technically able. Kudos also for Fre Madou as recording engineer managed to capture every nuance of the music.

Dré Pallemaerts writes in the liner notes that jazz renews itself by linking young musicians to established values. And this is what this group embues. Mamutrio may not play in Antibes, the chance that you will find them in a small club near you is greater. Even then your best no doubt to hear how jazz in the year 2017 can be quite fascinating. 'Primal Existence' was in fact released on the American label Origin Records. Just to say that she still sometimes "something" to see the other side of the ocean. (Translated)

Original text:

Twee jonge veteranen nemen 'on the bandstand' een jonge kerel op sleeptouw.
