Recorded October 18, 2000 at Dead Aunt Thelma's recording studio in Portland, Oregon, MIRADOR introduces the music and piano work of composer Dave Giberson. A highly gifted pianist, I was reminded at times of the late jazz pianist great, Bill Evans. Dave Giberson has a nice, tight, melodic sound that is uniquely his own, and he demonstrates it on this CD.
Giberson is accompanied by Dave Captein on bass and Chris Lee on drums, excellent jazz sidemen to have anytime! The solo performances sparkle with imagination on MIRADOR.
9 Selections and some of them are "Gothic Quarter," "Morpheus," "Then & Now," "Treasure," "Mirador," among others. "Morpheus" is 6:07 minutes of right-on, melodic jazz expressions, and another is "Emergence" (7:38 minutes). "Gothic Quarter" is incredibly good and delivers note for note some powerful and remarkable jazz performances. All 9 selections have something fresh and new to offer the jazz audience.
MIRADOR will entertain and captivate you with its subtle jazz motifs and flawless solo work. Clay Giberson is a fine composer and jazz pianist, and this fine collection showcases his abilities. Excellent.
