...his majestic Websteresque tone and Prez-like rides should propel him to the top rung of today's jazz cats.
On "Lucky," saxophonist/composer Teuber displays a much different side than the well known work he did touring with singer Ani DeFranco over the last several years. With a fluid & feathery tone often compared to Lee Konitz, his roots in jazz and his love of Brazilian musics, Hans explores 9 of his original compositions with famed Brazilian drummer Paulo Braga, NY bassist Santi Debriano and pianist Jovino Santos Neto. With arrangements utilizing flutes, french horn and clarinet, the results are lush and lyrical, bringing to mind a very hip and updated version of the mid-60's Brazilian/jazz recordings of Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd.

I first heard Hans Teuber with his sly, sweet, and swell sax work backing Kendra Shank, and his new release Lucky - is a rare gem.
