Tim Davies Big Band

Dialmentia

Origin 82531

I am thrilled to witness today the growth of this emerging young leader of tomorrow's music.
- John Clayton

Los Angeles-based Australian drummer Tim Davies formed his first big band in 1998 in Melbourne and in 2000, his second when he relocated to the U.S. Grounded in the traditional, his music adds elements of rock, metal and hip hop, creating a blend that is truly unique. "Dialmentia" is all that and more as Davies explores all possibilities in his compositions with surprising grooves and instrumentation, performed by some of the top session and jazz players in L.A. Besides his work with his band, Davies is an in-demand composer, arranger, orchestrator and conductor for film, TV, and recordings.

Reviews of Dialmentia

All Music (Ken Dryden)

The Voice, Sacramento (Dick Crockett)
What Tim Davies does is morphing musical dreams into themes of Kenton ultra dynamics. As the first suggests, Counting To Infinity,"with a Didjeridu opening...Almost like a flailing guitar open, down, instinctual and nasty. That's what a didjeridu will do for you. Whoa, that's different! Throws you in a magical way, doesn't it? "Hanging On A Thr ...

Cadence (Michael Steinman)
Dialmentia began a bit aggressively for my taste--collective finger-snapping, loud drums, and shouting brass--no matter how much I turned the volume down, this band still seemed too huge. Passages on the CD ("Hanging by a Thread" for one) were more serene, but Davies still seems intrigues by sheer sonic force. His shouting "Caravan (-dalized)" wi ...

The Davis Enterprise (Ric Bang)
You don't often encounter drummers who are also composers, arrangers and producers; Tim Davies is a member of that relatively small fraternity. He also leads a really big band that usually features (according to his web site) "a mixture of jazz, hip-hop and death metal." It's certainly all of that. The cadre includes nine reeds, eight trumpets, ...

International Trumpet Guild (Paul K. Bhasin)
This new offering by the Tim Davies Big Band features all-new compositions and arrangements by Tim Davies (apart from a fresh re-imagination of the Ellington/Tizol Caravan and Faure's famous Elegy). Davies' eclectic, expressive writing features the didgeridoo, vocal rap performances, solo cello, and imaginative horn/rhythm section interplay. The fi ...
