The romantic and lyrical Circle 3 Trio of David Friesen/b, Greg Goebel/p and Charlie Doggett puts together a 2 disc set of studio and concert material, which also includes a healthy dose of LA's best, guitarist Larry Koonse. The team is able to create some lively tunes like the Metheny-esque 5/4 dance "Playground" and the skating "Overland" while they show their bop chops on the grooving "Blue 10." Each artist gets a chance in the spotlight as well, with Friesen showing his wares on the fragrant "Tribute" and delivering a nice riff on "Counterpart." Goebel's romantic touch woos on the warm "Song For Ben"and Doggett shows some nice stick work as he gently drives on "A Road Less Traveled" and hits the skins on "Zebra." Koonse is never in short supply and proves why he's in such high demand on the lyrical "Green Hills Slowly Passing By" and flowing "Day of Rest." Rich and succulent; you can cut it with a fork.
