Hugo Fernandez presents his second album as a leader. If the first we liked (See CD review "ORIGINS") This brings us to like a lot. All topics are his compositions and production as well. As he did in his previous album, Ariel Bringuez accompanies him that Antonio Sanchez and Antonio Miguel add.
Hugo Fernandez continues to demonstrate its great compositional maturity, imbuing the eight tracks on the album with a particular, recognizable and original color.
And as interpretive, is showing us the high level it has and that is felt both alone and in the accompaniments. And in the latter case it would highlight the dialogues with saxophones (tenor and soprano) of Bringuez.
And at this point, I would highlight the interpretation of Ariel Bringuez getting sounds that sometimes reminiscent of W. Shorter or Jan Garbarek. Bringuez is bright and its role in this record I find important.
The rhythm section formed battery Antonio Sanchez and Miguel Antonio contrabass fall short of the two main instruments and their work strikes me as crucial in the outcome of the disc.
This latest work by Hugo Fernandez is a fascinating mix of soft sounds and at the same time thrilling; slow pace but with great swing. A contemporary, fresh, full of vitality jazz ratifying Hugo Fernandez and his companions, as true values of national and international jazz.
