Playing tenor sax and flute, Carl Schultz creates a kind of soundtrack to an as yet unwritten science fiction move on this creative and evocative album with Tim Wendel/g, Adam Benjamin/p-key, Zack Teran/b and Alwyn Robinson/dr. As expected, the intergalactic themes are, well, spacey, as Wendel and Benjamin go where no man has gone before on "Journey" and "Psychohistory", and the electric noodles veer around the machinations of "Caves Of Steel". Computer tones are rata-tated out on "Crystalline Desolation" with some floating flute in a hover craft over Benjamin's crystalline reflections on "Gladia". Wendel and the leader get elliptical on "Unsettled Worlds" while the team returns to earth as Schultz blows his tenor in a post-bop fashion on the swinging "The Spirit of Adventure". The Outernet: The Light & The Fury". Anyone want to send this to Christopher Nolan or Denis Villeneuve?
