What a great, surprising recording...bright and new modern music that knows a ton about the Afro Cuban tradition, and a ton about the modern jazz tradition, and isn't afraid to take liberties with it all.
With the open and spontaneous aesthetic of New York City's jazz scene combined with inspiration drawn from traditional folkloric music of the Americas, Grupo Los Santos continues to explore their unique collective sound on their third release, Clave Heart. Here, the quartet of saxophonist Paul Carlon, guitarist Peter Smith, bassist David Ambrosio, and drummer William "Beaver" Bausch, adds bata drums, Afro-Cuban chants, and guests, flute virtuoso Kaori Fujii and long-time collaborator, vocalist and body-percussionist Max Pollak, to create a wide spectrum of sound and texture throughout this dynamic set of original compositions.

Editor's Pick:
What a great, surprising recording, from a little known New York band, Grupo Los Santos. The band, Paul Carlon on saxophones, Pete Smith on guitar, David Ambrosio on bass and Beaver Bausch on drums are on its third installment and Clave Heart is pretty amazing, a mixture of religious singing and rhythms from Cuba and an absolutel ...
Latin Jazz Net (Raul Da Gama)
Grupo Los Santos is a small ensemble that melds together a number of idioms and metaphors that are culled from jazz to Afro-Caribbean in a powerful, muscular mix of music that is original and memorable.
On Clave Heart this music emerges with much swagger and rhythmic intensity as each song unfurls narrating the story of a journey that is flush wit ...
Herencia Latina (Nelson Rodriguez)
Grupo Los Santos hails from New York, and began as a quartet back in 1998 in what we can best be described as a rumba jazz act. Finally, debuted their 2000 released "Noches En El Taller" (on 104th & Broadway), where guitarist Pete Smith, drummer William Bausch, saxophonist Paul Carlon and bassist Nicolas Walker performed regularly. Soon after, Dav ...
