Pindaric flights, experimental tones and a mosaic of improv/jazz atmospheres await us in this new album by Jun Iida (trumpet) mixed by the wizard of 'sound' Rich Breen. Among the leading figures in the New York neo jazz scene, Iida grinds creative projects, while his fine 'effects' welcome Mother Africa with a sparkling contemplative embrace of modern funk flavour. Trumpeter Jun Iida's warm and inviting tone, clever composition choices and his sublime sense of melody pave the way for his debut recording. Evergreen (ten tracks) perfectly captures the current New York moment, but also draws on international talents such as the acclaimed Josh Nelson on piano, guitarist Masami Kuroki, and bassist Jonathan Richards, along with the dynamic Seattle drummer Xavier Lecouturier. As the lines in front of techno clubs get shorter and shorter, the city is slowly transforming into a hotspot of musicians and artists of all sorts with amazing instrumentalists, producers and bands from all over the world moving to the capital to create a new scene. Jun shares a brilliant and compelling message, in the soft Akatombo, while cool vibes are seen in the bright Bellarosa and Forgotten Memories. Holding On To Autumn is the exotic element of all the work that establishes itself as a key platform for this new indie soul. Originally from St. Louis, MO, Iida has lived in Seattle, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Los Angeles and recently moved to New York City. Iida has internalized the different musical styles from each region, making his approach to composition and arrangement attractive and unexpected with his subtle jazz idea. In the cast, the talented soul jazz voice of Aubrey Johnson (already with Lyle Mays and John Patitucci).
