Flow is mostly a piano trio record (saxophonist Vincent Herring guests on two tracks.) and pianist Jihee Heo composed all (but two) of the tunes. The band comes out of the gate literally swinging! Listen to Heo and Farnsworth trade on the opening number "New Yorker Step." The strolling tempo of "I Can See Only One Step Ahead" gives the band a chance to relax and really dig into the tempo and everything that it entails. Listen to Joe's brushwork throughout, he lets the tune speak for itself on the gentle bossa of "Aquellos Ojos Verdes," and his patient flow of "Opening the New Door" is refreshing. Hear Farnsworth play in the cracks on the head in on "Extreme Noise Blocker," and his funky eights on "The Hidden Giant." "The Late Bloomer" brings everything to a nice conclusion with a nice walking bass solo from Alexander Claffy, after which Farnsworth plays a burning extended solo. Heo has a gentle touch, a pleasant compositional approach, and a nice concept. Flow is a very nice record.
