Trumpeter Anthony Stanco has been releasing several good records recently, but Live at the Alluvion is a great record.
Drummer Joe Farnsworth is again at the helm of the rhythm section with pianist Xavier Davis, and bassist John Webber, and guitarist Randy Napoleon joining Stanco on the front line. The band comes out burning with "T. Sea," and the nice lope of "Say You're Mine," and "Hey Cute One." Farnsworth adds some nice snap and crackle on "Riptide," and a nice solo to bring us all back to the top. Farnsworth and Webber are amongst the best bass and drum teams around, their separate beats are truly felt as one. The crowd responds with electricity to the enticing "In the Groove," and the groove provided by Farnsworth and Webber
keeps everything going. The rhythm section maneuvers through the constantly shifting "Tales" with ease. Farnsworth is featured on "Just a Moment," and he takes full advantage with several chorus' of drum fireworks. Through the recording, Stanco's trumpet lights the fire that engulfs the band and the audience.
Jazz is always better in front of a live audience, and Anthony Stanco's outstanding new record is no different. Everyone is sitting comfortably In the Groove.
