Entangled

Armed with a solid musical education, saxophonist David Borgo and drummer Paul Pellegrin have put their volatile expressiveness in the service of a highly stratified concept in terms of rhythm and harmony. It is primarily Pellegrin's drumming style that's imprinted on the identity of Entangled.

The polycentricity of his rhythmic drumming and irregular metric development adds a vagueness to the flow of the sound. The interest of the CD is based on sophisticated harmonic grids, which returns the electrifying sound of the Californian group.

It turns out a mordant music within an advanced and diverse mainstream. Thanks to the rugged geometry of the compositions, the ensemble explores between the sounds of Anthony Braxton and Tim Berne, and in good balance between free, rarefied abstractions and ties to tradition. Equally compelling is the timbre, not flattened by the logic of mainstream jazz solos. Especially in the suite that gives the title to the disc, a shady sound carpet towers with harmonic complexity to produce a dynamic and effective music. It is rare to find a personality so ingenious with musically fervent ideas such as those that make up Kronomorfic.

Forti di una solidissima formazione musicale, i due leader David Borgo e Paul Pellegrin hanno messo la loro volatile espressività al servizio di un progetto estremamente stratificato sul piano ritmico e timbrico. È soprattutto il batterista ad imprimere il proprio stile all'identità di Entangled.

Il policentrismo ritmico del suo drumming persegue irregolari sviluppi metrici, che hanno come fine l'indeterminatezza del flusso sonoro. L'interesse del CD si fonda sulle sofisticate griglie armoniche, che ben restituiscono l'elettrizzante sound del gruppo californiano.

Ne vien fuori una musica ricca di mordente all'interno di un mainstream avanzato e multiforme. Grazie a composizioni dalla geometricità aspra, l'ensemble pesca tra Anthony Braxton e Tim Berne in buon equilibrio tra free, rarefatte astrazioni e legami con la tradizione. Altrettanto avvincente è la disposizione timbrica, per nulla appiattita sulla logica dei canonici assoli mainstream. Soprattutto nella suite che dà il titolo al disco, giganteggia un tappeto sonoro ombroso ed armonicamente complesso per produrre una musica dinamica ed incisiva. È raro riscontrare personalità cos" ingegnose e musicalmente fervide di idee, come quelle che compongono Kronomorfic.
