First of all let me say that I am a true jazz fan who enjoys the classic music such as Miles and Coltrane. Second of all let me say that I am a trumpet player, which means I am a bit biased in this review. But putting that aside, this is an excellent album with great chemistry between the two musicians. Buselli has a very personal tone on the flugel that is also unique. In my opinion, the last track, The Nearness of You, is worth the price of the entire album. The solos are very appealing and the chemistry is completely there, as it must be on a duo album like this. Keep in mind that this album was completely spontaneous. The two musicians went into the studio with virtually no music. The melodies were composed while they were playing, but it does not sound like that at all. Originally I thought I wouldn't like this cd because of the lack of a complete rhythm section, but honestly once I listened to it for a while I didn't miss the bass or drums. If you like good flugelhorn and piano playing, or just jazz in general, I would strongly recommend this album.
