Pianist Marius Nordal provides a rare Jazz treatment of well-known popular hits from the 1960s and 1970s in this well-crafted solo piano concert. Nordal's musical interpretations are creative and lucid, while remaining faithful to melody and spirit of music from the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, Burt Bacharach, Chuck Berry, and other popular musicians from this era. Drawing upon his considerable Jazz and classical musical skills, Nordal gives a captivating performance that contains moments of great lyrical beauty (as in "Aubrey" and "Killing Me Softly"), brooding anxiety ("Eleanor Rigby"), somber reflection ("Scarborough Fair," "She's Leaving Home," and "Strawberry Fields Forever"), urbane sophistication ("Wives and Lovers"), unbridled joy ("School Days," "Good Vibrations"), and rakish and uplifting spirit ("Mrs. Robinson" and Nordal's own "Suncatchers/Oregon"). Listen as well for a few wry quotes from selected TV themes from this period. Nordal in this excellent recording imparts heightened beauty and value to music dear to the hearts of most members of the Baby Boomer Generation, roughly translated as those born in the fifteen years or so following World War II.
