4-STARS Chuck Owen is particularly well-known as the leader of his big band Jazz Surge. Here he leads ReSurgence, a sextet or septet with a very special line-up. On two tracks, a wind ensemble with trumpet, trombone and alto saxophone also joins the core line-up. With the exception of the originally arranged "Spinning Wheel" by the band Blood, Sweat & Tears, which begins in the New Orleans style but swings wonderfully in the tenor saxophone solo, all of the compositions and lyrics are by Chuck Owen. The eight tracks are colorful, musically diverse and sophisticated, covering a wide range from urban funk and folk music to swing and contemporary classical music. "Can't Remember Why", in which Chuck Owen picks up the accordion, and the lyrical "... And Your Point Is??" are very successful. with solos from tenor saxophone, violin and drums with Chuck Owen on the dulcimer, the ballad-starting, then heavily rock-oriented "Apalachicola" and the atmospheric "What Once Was Lost".
