WHEE3Trio: In the Wheelhouse

Drummer and percussionist Andy Wheelock brings his trio of Walter Gorra/p and Gonzalo Teppa/b together with guest guitarist Gilad Heksleman for a collection of fervent originals. Wheelock likes to play with tricky groves, opening things up with a snappy intro to the Latin "Empire" with some tactile delicacies with Teppa, while he changes directions with aplomb on the clutch popping "Two5-Two3". Teppa gets a nice aria on the galloping "In The Wheelhouse" with the team creating some dark shadows on "Finn". Hekselman wastes not a single note throughout, dancing over the ripples of "Y our Pour Mother", hovering on the static "Blossom" and chiming with Gorra on the African-ish "Kewo". Original originals.
