Another recording from Ted Piltzecker with a lot to enjoy on various levels. Piltzecker mixes marimba and vibes into the program in just the right ways, with woody marimba used in more rhythmic figures. Two original compositions fill out the program of standards and originals by jazz greats, but the arrangements are all well designed and give even familiar tunes new excitement. Sometimes it's sparse and intimate, and other times rhythmic and energetic with added Latin percussion from Vinicius Barros and Hugo Alcazar, giving Peruvian and Brazilian stylings. Piltzecker's solos can be lush with ringing vibes chords or speedy and exhilarating. Brad Goode's signature trumpet tone shines on everything with engaging solos throughout. Gonzalo Teppa's bass playing catches your ear with great grooves and melodic solo spots, and Paul Romaine's drumming is versatile with subtle brushwork, swinging cymbals, and lively Latin rhythms that lock in with the percussion.
