The Door is Open by guitarist Randy Napoleon provides a fitting showcase for the work of composer Gregg Hill. The production, recomposed and arranged by Napoleon, highlights the brilliance of Hill's notes and allows the great performances of all the players to shine through. Featured on the effort are the talents of Aubrey Johnson on vocals, Rick Roe on piano, Rodney Whitaker and Lucas LaFave on basses, Quincy Davis on drums, Walter Blanding on saxophone, Anthony Stanco on trumpet, and Andrew Kim on trombone. Johnson's melodic accompaniment with the guitar and horns throughout the recording highlights the instruments and the structure of the tunes beautifully, a wonderful element in an effort of entertaining and outstanding quality.
