Mitch Paliga - Fall Night
by , Phrases / Phrases

Dave Liebman pupil of the Mitch Paliga, records for more than twenty years, but released his first album until 2006. Which is to demonstrate the difficulties faced by professional musicians moving in a separate area which apart from the purely musical part, bear the burden of caring for themselves and for all the rest. From the cover and produce the CD, to play, promotion and distribution of natural and caring for the closure... read more

Geof Bradfield - Our Roots
by Thomas Cunniffe, Jazz History Online

Back in 1965, Clifford Jordan recorded an album of songs written by Leadbelly called "These Are My Roots". The album recast several folk tunes and blues in a modern jazz style without losing the flavor of the original songs. When Chicago tenor saxophonist Geof Bradfield was asked to recreate a classic jazz album of his choosing for a local concert series, he chose the Jordan album, and on his new CD, "Our Roots", he reprises four of those tracks... read more

Scenes - Trapeze
by Chris Spector, Midwest Record

With the original line up coming together for the first time in 20 years, they play together like they haven't missed a step. With most of the tunes by the MIA sax man who originally left for health reasons, everyone is right back in step. With a Seattle take on a New York feel for modern sax jazz, it's that hypnotic kind of set that breathes well in the background or foreground, powered by pros that know how to... read more

Don Lanphere with New Stories - Home At Last
by Butch Berman, Berman Music Review

One of my fave jazz trios is Seattle's New Stories, and one of my fave sax players is Don Lanphere, who lives in Kirkland, Wash., Seattle's over-the-bridge neighbor.

When these four get together to play, they are ready to SAY SOMETHING; the new Origin CD Home at Last is another excellent choice for any true jazz lover of the bebop era to embrace and add to his or her record collection.

Home at Last simply smolders and soothes all at the... read more

Brad Goode - Polytonal Dance Party
by Paul Abella, Chicago jazz.com

Since Brad Goode left Chicago a few years back, he's been on a tear, recording three CD's in three years. His latest, on Origin Records, is by far the best of the bunch. Finally, with the aid of a band willing to play his tunes the way that he wanted to write them, Goode can be heard in a whole new light. And in a light that takes him from being "another good trumpeter" to being in a class all his own.

Polytonal Dance Party is a fantastic... read more

Purna Loka Ensemble - Metaraga
by George W Harris, Jazz Weekly

A rich mix of Indian strings, percussion and western accessibility takes place on the two violin team of Purnaprajna Bangere and David Balakrishnan on the front line, bassist Jeff Harshbarger and tabla player Amit Kavhekar on this richly hued collection. The evocative tablas lead into a richly textured lilt on "Syzygy" and a more traditional Central Asian drone and harmonics takes place o n"Abhogi Varnam" and the meditative "Fibration." A three... read more

Michael Bisio & Timothy Hill - Inside Voice / Outside Voice
by Derk Richardson, The Absolute Sound

Covering standards can be risky business, especially when someone has previously put an indelible stamp on a tune, the way Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane did on "My One and Only Love" and Chet Baker on "I Fall in Love Too Easily."

But on this cleverly titled recording with Michael Bisio, singer/guitarist Timothy Hill takes possession of those classics, as well as "For All We Know" (made famous by Nat King Cole) allowing us to hear new... read more

Corey Christiansen - La Proxima
by Dan McClenaghan, All About Jazz

Guitarist Corey Christiansen's early days recording for Seattle's Origin Records featured a pair of superb organ jazz recordings, Roll with it (2008) and Outlaw Tractor (2010). A versatile player, the guitarist expanded his vision with his "American West" set Lone Prairie (Origin Records, 2013), in addition to his "avant cowboy/surf rock band" on Factory Girl (Origin Records, 2016).

Throughout Christiansen's eight Origin Records releases,... read more
