Blessed

This disc came from the desire of drummer Scott Neumann to perform in a trio with Michael Blake, a saxophonist he's known since 1985 and crossed paths with through various projects. Mark Helias' musical history, personality and open-minded approach are the elements that led the leader, without hesitation, to choose the bassist for the project. Thus was born the Neu3 Trio, here with their debut recording for Origin Records.

The climate is relaxed, creating a warm and enveloping sound, the compositions are strongly characterized by a melodic point of view, the musicians perfectly at ease, like a reunion between old friends. A pleasant session in the wake of memories, with forays into the country - the closing "The Syracusian" - the blues - "Blues for RQ ," - exotic eastern sounds - "Ama Dablam ," the mountain depicted in the cover photo , or in the post-bop of the title track.

The three especially strong personalities form a common feeling that exceeds the boundaries of genre and stereotypes of the respective instruments. Certainly there are times when you can fully appreciate the quality of the individual - always wonderful and unique is Blake's blowing on the tenor or push of the high notes on the soprano - but it is the interaction between the members of the trio and their ability to develop written material with unpredictable solutions where they make their mark.

Questo disco nasce dal desiderio del batterista Scott Neumann di incidere in trio con Michael Blake, sassofonista conosciuto nel lontano 1985 e successivamente incrociato in vari progetti. La storia musicale, la personalit e la mentalit� aperta di Mark Helias sono gli elementi che hanno successivamente portato il leader a scegliere senza tentennamenti il contrabbassista. Nasce cos� il Neu3 Trio qui al debutto discografico per la Origin Records.

Il clima della registrazione � rilassato, il suono caldo e avvolgente, le composizioni fortemente caratterizzate dal punto di vista melodico, i musicisti perfettamente a proprio agio, come in una rimpatriata tra vecchi amici. Una piacevole session sull'onda dei ricordi, con incursioni nel country - la conclusiva "The Syracusian" - nel blues - "Blues for RQ," naturalmente -, nelle sonorit� orientali - "Ama Dablam," la montagna raffigurata nella foto di copertina, o nel post bop della title track.

Senz'altro, ma anche e sopratutto tre forti personalit� dal sentire comune che superano i confini dei generi e gli stereotipi dei rispettivi strumenti. Certo in Blessed ci sono momenti in cui si possono apprezzare appieno le qualit� dei singoli - come sempre meraviglioso e inconfondibile il sax di Blake sia che soffi nel tenore o si spinga sugli acuti del soprano - ma � l'interazione tra i componenti del trio e la capacit� di sviluppare il materiale scritto con soluzioni imprevedibili a lasciare il segno.
