Slightly changing the line-up of the band, he always tries to maintain his own sound and format, which he dazzles with in subsequent recordings. This time, the trumpeter's sextet (Myron Walden on alto saxophone and EJ Strickland on drums, Nicole Glover on tenor saxophone, David Bryant on piano and Eric Wheeler on bass) perform the "Auteur" session.

It is a fascinating project containing original compositions and never-before-recorded songs by Freddie Hubbard and Slide Hampton. The album is also the first new project of David Weiss's Sextet in a decade. The "Auteur" session showcases Weiss's deep emotional and musical talent, which draws on hard bop, swing, avant-garde, and various other genres to create a rich and personal sound. The album, recorded at Big Orange Sheep Studios in Brooklyn, New York, showcases the virtuoso unity and innovation of the sextet.
