Doug Scarborough is a trombonist, bassist, pianist, composer, and music educator equally at home in classical, jazz, and pop contexts. He is co-author of Samuel Jones: the Uncompromising Life and Music of an American Composer (University Press of Mississippi, 2026). He has performed with top artists such as Arturo Sandoval (as trombonist), Grammy-winning bands like the Gypsy All-Stars and Mountain Heart (as bassist), and the legendary guitar phenom Shawn Lane (as keyboardist) while winning three DownBeat jazz awards and contributing record reviews for the International Trombone Association Journal. On the classical side, he performed Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra by Samuel Jones with the Walla Walla (WA) Symphony in 2015. He has taught at the Thailand Jazz Workshop, the Lebanon Jazz Workshop, and West Nairobi School in Kenya. Scarborough currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Jazz and Trombone at Millikin University.
