The search for the balance between tradition and personality is undoubtedly one of the fundamental issues of modern jazz. The reference to the great masters and the possibility of finding new creative solutions, the reinterpretation and reworking of the repertoire, the expressive folds of the most used formations (such as, for example, in this case the acoustic quartet formed by saxophone, piano, double bass and drums) and the personal synthesis between different languages. And again, the possible combinations between lyricism and energy, between virtuosity and inspiration, between sentiment and intellectual dimension.

The eleven tracks on "From What I Recall" offer Simona Premazzi and Kyle Nasser's solid and concrete response to all this. Four pieces signed by the Italian pianist and six themes composed by the saxophonist (to these is then added the introduction to Stalking) broadly draw the vision of the two musicians and the consequent application to the needs of the quartet: from blues to post bop, from swing to the most current drifts, Premazzi and Nasser intertwine with energy and rigor the threads of their musical discourse to give life to a coherent exploration, built on a tight, enthralling interplay and designed to play with always interesting rhythmic suggestions, capable of maintaining tension in the most relaxed songs.

A mature confrontation with history and its protagonists and a convinced and confident approach give depth to the work of Premazzi and Nasser: the pieces composed by the two musicians allow the quartet to focus on different facets from time to time, to let in ideas of various kinds and, above all, to be able to transform them according to the most personal intentions, both in writing and in the exposition of themes and improvisations. Maturity and conviction thus become the keys useful to Premazzi and Nasser to identify their own direction, without fear of any kind and without having to chase specious solutions, to the benefit of the overall musical meaning and sense.
