"Innovative music album that transcends the boundaries of music using concepts from advanced math"
Purnapragna Bengere along with David Balakrishnan and associates Jeff Harshburger and Amit Kavethkar has created a unique, genre-bending type of music. The music is based on a framework called Metaraga that takes the Indian Raga system and extends it by adding Horizontal and vertical extensions to it based on concepts from Algebraic Geometry. The songs in this album have portions that sound like Indian classical music, Western Classical, blues, jazz, and modern music. The pieces are playful, innovative, creative. They provide a special sonic landscape that is very pleasing to listen to and stretch the musical boundaries that the listener is used to.
All the pieces are unique. Most of them are new compositions from Purnapragna Bengere and David Balakrishnan. There are two pieces from the South Indian Classical music repertoire. One song is an interpretation of the Song Alabama from John Coltrane.
Just as Cubism caused a revolution in painting by providing multiple perspectives in a single painting, the metaraga framework is providing a similar revolution in music by providing multiple perspectives of Indian, Western Classical, Blues, Jazz , modern atonal music in a single piece.
I highly recommend this innovative, boundaryless album that will stretch your listening tastes and maybe the beginning of a new genre of music by itself.
