Canadian vocalist Angela Verbrugge appeared on our contemporary scene like an exotic guest. She lives on the beautiful Vancouver Island, where time has stood still in many places. Listening to the songs she sings, I have the impression that Angela comes from the times when melody, the atmosphere of the songs sung, and finally the emotions hidden behind the sounds were important. And these are the interpretations of this charming artist, which gave her the title of Best Female Vocalist according to one of the most important jazz magazines in the American world, JazzTimes. Somewhere is her third album, on which she sings mainly standards, but not only, because we also have her own song - "Je Ne Veux Pas Te Dire Bonsoir," sung in French. The excellent Canadian-American band not only accompanies the vocalist, but also has plenty of room for her own invention. And Angela Verbrugge herself sings the way people used to sing in New York clubs in the 50s. She interprets the standards with charm and feeling, transferring the beauty of these melodies to the present day. In one song, "Somewhere" by Leonard Bernstein, she is accompanied by the male voice of Erik Kalaidzis. This is an album for a romantic evening, but also for a moment of relaxation, when we want to move to a slightly different, better and certainly less complicated world.
